Tactical Angler — Privacy Policy
Effective 14 October 2026 · Applies to the Tactical Angler iOS app and web app
Your data lives on your phone
Your spots, catches, photos and the stats built from them are saved on your device by default — they don't leave it. The app works fully offline and with no account.
Signing in backs it up (optional)
If you choose to sign in (Sign in with Apple, or a passwordless email link), your spots, catches and sessions are copied to our secure cloud (Supabase) so you don't lose them and they sync across your devices. Your email address is used only to run your account. App settings stay on your phone.
Private by default
Your spots and catches are yours. They are never shown to other users, never sold, and never used for advertising or tracking. The app contains no ads and no third-party analytics.
Location
Location is used only to find your nearest saved spot and attach local conditions (tide, wind) to a catch. It is never tracked in the background. Catch positions you log are part of your private journal and sync only if you sign in.
Camera and photos
The camera and photo library are used only when you choose to photograph a catch or analyse a sounder screenshot. Photos stay on your device unless you sign in for backup — except when you use an AI feature (below).
AI features (Google Gemini)
The Guide, AI Screen Check and Species ID send your question or the photo you choose — plus the conditions at your spot, and, only if you turn it on, your saved spots and catch history for personal Guide answers — through our server and the OpenRouter AI service to Google's Gemini AI, which returns the answer. We set OpenRouter to use only providers that don't store or train on it. The app asks your permission before the first time anything is sent, and you can turn AI features off at any time in the account sheet. Nothing is sent to the AI unless you use one of those features.
Weather and tides
To show conditions, the rounded position of the spot you're viewing is sent through our server to MET Norway (weather). For NSW spots, only the nearest tide station's position is sent to Stormglass (tides). Queensland tides come from the official Maritime Safety Queensland tables we hold ourselves — nothing is sent for those.
Push notifications
If you turn on notifications, a device token is stored so we can send you the pings you asked for (like session check-ins). Turning notifications off or signing out removes it.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account in the app at any time: tap the 👤 button (top right) → Delete my account. This permanently erases your login and everything backed up to our cloud. Logs saved only on your phone are removed when you delete the app.
Your rights and data removal
Want your synced data removed, or have a question? Use "Send feedback" in the app, or email cody.cc1995@gmail.com and we'll sort it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
